What truly defines a great host?

Is it the quality of their surroundings, the china, glassware and linens, culinary delights, the diversity of the guest list - or simply the ability to put guests at their ease?

For over 20 years, Alexandra Messervy has produced some of the most polished and glamorous events in Britain and abroad for a select number of companies, charities and individuals and has developed a reputation for original and innovative event choreography using only the most exclusive venues, the finest florists, lighting and purveyors of sound or entertainment, the most sought after caterers, and the most professional staff.

The art of hosting a truly magnificent event does not necessarily mean extravagance, but instead very careful planning and attention to detail, based on the tradition of British hospitality etiquette.

A very brief list of suppliers is maintained on our database, together with access to some of the most celebrated venues across the world. Our team can assist with the protocol of planning an event, whether it is a business dinner party, private luncheon, business dinner, a corporate event for 500 guests or a country wedding.

We will offer advice and practical assistance in every aspect - from putting together a guest list, sending out invitations and arranging seating plans, to assistance with purchasing a suitable wedding outfit.

Too often the attention of hosts is overtaken by more important issues, and there is not much advice handed out on the 'correct way' to handle an event. With The English Manner, nothing is too much trouble in our quest to ensure that events are spectacular and the protocol of choreography unsurpassed.

An event with The English Manner will guarantee conversation between guests and peace of mind for the host.

TIPS ON HOSTING YOUR OWN PARTY

Plan ahead and send 'save the date' notes before formal invitations

Avoid holding an event at the busiest times of year when refusals are more likely and party-goers more jaded

Include an acceptance card with the information

A stressed host creates stressed guests. Be organised

Create welcoming decor and lighting, be generous with drinks and buy the best you can afford

First impressions count. Ensure that every guest is greeted on arrival, preferably with a drink
