2-Day Au Pair & Nanny Refresher Training

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE PRIVATE HOUSEHOLD - AU PAIRS, STUDENT NANNIES & MOTHERS' HELPS

The programme is directed at those who wish to work in the UK or abroad as an ‘aide de la maison’ au pair or mother’s help who have some experience in the workplace and student nannies who would like to broaden their domestic skills and learn how to live in complete harmony in the private household!

Classes include practical interactive exercises in a real household environment, and this programme will run on selected dates on request.

Day One

  1. Setting the scene - the private household, the family and the children

  2. Your role within the household - what is expected, boundaries and crossing the line

  3. Coaching & mentor session

  4. First impressions, colour, and image presentation

  5. Communication etiquette

  6. Body language, interaction with peers, staff & guests

  7. Greeting and introductions

  8. Forms of address

  9. Non-verbal interpretation

  10. Accepting tips & gifts

  11. Mobile phones, email & IT issues, and telephone manners

  12. How to answer the door

  13. Facebook & social networking

  14. First aid

  15. Basic hygiene issues

  16. Household safety

Day Two

  1. Child development

  2. The Nursery - room detailing

  3. Bed making

  4. Wardrobe care

  5. Angels, toddlers, and teenage tyrants

  6. Work, rest & play: how to organise schedules, including play dates, birthday parties, school pick ups and after school activities

  7. Petty cash and managing a small budget

  8. Respect

  9. Security and safety issues & self-defence

  10. Escorting children

  11. Tidying up

  12. The family kitchen and mealtimes

  13. Employee relations

  14. How to make the most of your training - future jobs and certificates
